The fields were golden with crops ready to harvest. One of the barley fields had cornflowers growing there as well. We also saw some harebells. There were lots of people walking dogs. We walked through a field where both the cows and horses were the same shade of brown as Ruby. Ron has never been told so many times that he is gorgeous. There was a big brown bull in another field. We discovered that an “Auchtermuchty” is a haggis and bacon roll. Craster is now a holiday village, and many of the houses looking out to sea have extensions. It was very busy as it was Lifeboat Day. Two modern lifeboats were in the harbour. We had a drink in the garden of the Jolly Fisherman and watched the rowers in a couple of boats. We passed Alexander Armstrong between Craster and Dunstanburgh Castle. There were some fairy stones just below the castle. We watched a golfer nearly get a hole-in-one and then Michelle was nearly hit by a golf ball. A family of cyclists crossed the golf course. There wasn't much wildlife around. However, we did see the following: oyster catchers, sanderlings, redshanks, turnstones, rock pipits, large white butterflies, and a rabbit. We heard yellow hammers. |
