Route

Housesteads Roman Fort car park - Along Hadrian's Wall (Hotbank Crags, Steel Rigg) to Twice Brewed Inn, then back to Housesteads by public footpath south of the Wall.

Weather

Very cold at first and dull, with sunshine in the afternoon. Lovely sunset with beautiful colours.

Walkers

Michael, Michelle, George B, Ron, Sandy, Alyx, Beth, Carol

Comments

Very cold - Alyx was dressed up as a little Russian. First walk that was Google mapped. Lots of people and dogs out. Very up and down. Nice lunch spot at the crags at Crag Lough - a bit of a squeeze for eight. Possible sighting of Carol Malia. Paid a visit to the Twice Brewed Inn, which was much improved from the last visit - good service, and very busy. It had a back-to-front clock. A Roman slide at Housesteads, which Beth couldn't resist.

Wildlife: out of a list of about 12 possible animals and birds to be spotted, we only saw two - a very friendly robin and either one kestrel four times or four kestrels once. Friendly cows.

Evening meal

Wellington Inn at Riding Mill. Only four of us (including Evelyn). Usurped by a nearly out-of-date duck, and Carol had a date with a bath.
