Langthwaite - Booze - Fremington Edge - Reith - Langthwaite As predicted - cloudy, overcast, occasional rain and sunshine, persistent wind (cold!). Michelle, Michael, George B, Ron, Sandy, Beth, Carol. Carol and Beth did a shorter walk. |
Ashley - tied to his mother's apron strings (his own words) Alex - GCSE arty Bernie - school work Evelyn - still recovering from ski injury |
The most fresh air ever, most frogspawn ever and most frogs (doing synchronised breast stroke). Ron did a performance of "The Hills are Alive..." He was lying on the ground trying to take a photo of the rest of us cowering in the rain. Saw the rescue helicopter - it came over very low. The village of Booze had no pubs, but lots of desirable residences, full of potential. Nice lunch spot beside a stream. Going uphill after lunch was hard work. The navigation was tricky, with problems at the farm, where a woman was very helpful. She pointed out the route we had discarded which had a signpost in the middle of the field. Passed a house with a living roof - lots of creepers, such as ivy and honeysuckle. Pleasant tea spot. Ruined castle beside a farm on the way back. Wildlife: Cockerel and six hens in the car park. Lots of rabbits, alive and dead, and some sick bunnies. Sheep's skull. Many red grouse, pheasant, lots of dippers, male and female gosander, coal tit, heard a curlew, giant dog with one brown ear, chaffinches, lambs. |
The Ravensworth Arms. Very good meal - it had changed in character, and was more of a restaurant than a pub. |
