Walk leader

Ron

Route

Goathland - Mallyan Falls via West Beck, Hazel Head, Hunt House, and back to Goathland.

Weather

Better than forecast. No rain, and sunny spells. Warm out of the wind. It became much brighter later on.

Walkers

Ron, Sandy, Alex, Beth, Ashley, George B.

Apologies and Excuses

Michael and Michelle - doing something more exciting for Michael's birthday

Bernie - nephew's birthday

Carol - getting ready to go to New York

Evelyn - wandered round Goathland

Comments

Evelyn tried to pinch Ashley's car before the others had even left the car park. Sandy can't tell a pony from a cow. Sign in shop: "Trespassers will be shot and survivors will be shot again". Wish list outside Incline Cottage: "No school lectures, no picnicking, etc. Strange narrow door. Jubilee tree (1935) in Goathland. Sheeplicks.

The garlic wood to the waterfall was very busy, and had steep up and down. The waterfall was not on the stream. Lunch on the rocks - Sandy failed to catch any fish (lots of baby trout). Beth filled up the river with rocks and pinched Sandy's coat.

Wildlife: Dipper and nest at the waterfall. Grey squirrel, chaffinch, pheasant, rabbits, young calves, and gambolling lambs.

Afternoon tea at Goathland station, where there was a very grumpy waitress and a very friendly robin which even went behind the counter. Called in at Grosmont on the way back to look at the trains. TOM took Ashley from Goathland to Grosmont via 3 gates and 3 fords.

Evening meal

The County in Aycliffe Village. Very good meal, but was expensive.
