Walk leader

Ashley

Route

Plenmeller circular via Unthank Hall

Weather

Surprisingly dry. Cloudy and windy at first but cleared later.

Walkers

Ashley, George B., Bernie, Mike and Michelle.

Apologies and Excuses

Ron, Sandy Alex and Beth - Beth's birthday

Carol - negotiating a deal on a new car

Evelyn - kitten sitting

Comments

Ashley left his lunch at the car - he wouldn't accept any food from the others. Lots of wide open spaces. Tricky navigation due to lack of signs. Lots of gates tied with red twine. Barbed wire across public rights of way. Double barbed wire fences. Met a man in shorts and a t-shirt. Very untidy farm, with a dead pig and piglet. Lots of dead animals - 100 dead moles on a fence. Sterlilised ourselves entering a farm.

Everyone chickened out of crossing a muddy cow field. Nice cascade of meeting water. Lots of ploughing through heather and tussocks. Police cordons around coverless manholes, like a crime scene. Mike's eyes watered when George lost his balance and grabbed his groin.

Wildlife: Lots of pheasants, one of which gave Michelle a fright. Lots of rabbits, one deer, flock of shimmering birds, several black rams. Rams with curly horns.

Evening meal

Border Minstrel. Joined by George G., Carol and Evelyn. Nice meal, though the carrots tasted odd.
