Comments

Everyone arrived sharply and we started 15 minutes early. There were lots of people around - we even passed the same couple three times. The lady admonished us when our talking chased off a red deer. There were a couple of runners – father and son – with a black Labrador, which would much rather have had a good sniff around.

There was an abundance of fungi in the woods – both mushrooms and toadstools (red and fly agaric). We had lunch in the stone shelter just below the top of Cartington Hill – it was a bit draughty, but there were good views of Thrunton Woods. We came across a mysterious long hut in the woods, with no obvious path leading to it.

We spotted a young motorcyclist in a bright green top, racing up and down a field and making a lot of noise. We grazed off the sweet juicy brambles at the roadside. There was a house with red ivy on the walls. There were also several nice houses with good views over Rothbury on the final stretch. We saw a lady with a brand new metallic blue Morgan.

After the walk, we had tea/coffee and cake in the Vale Café in Rothbury

Not much wildlife around. However, we did see a buzzard, a meadow pipit and several pale brown sheep.

Meal

The Falcon’s Nest. Significantly better than on our last visit. Joined by Evelyn. Very friendly Greek waitress.
